On April 24, 2004, Ernie Burnett, Co-Founder, Past President and Director of the Delta Community Foundation passed away. We lost a wonderful man, a great contributor to the community and a donor who believed in the work of the Delta Community Foundation.
As the Director of Grants, Ernie spent a lot of time reviewing requests for grants from the Delta Community Foundation. He was on the front line recommending grants to be made to various organizations. He was very aware of the fact that the more we invested, the more interest is generated to support our "community service providers".
Ernie knew we couldn't award grants to all of the organizations that request them. So, he did something to help out. He made a bequest of $30,000.00 to be donated to the Delta Community Foundation.
I am pleased to announce that a motion was passed at the Board of Directors' meeting on June 1, 2004 to develop the "Ernie Burnett Memorial Fund". Over $1,850.00 that was donated to the Delta Community Foundation in Ernie's name will be added to his bequest and the total will be invested in perpetuity.
The interest will be granted on an annual basis to appropriate service providers in Delta. Those wanting to add to Ernie's fund may do so by contacting the Delta Community Foundation.
